MANIFEST HOPE GALLERY CONTEST - DENVER
02.08.08

MoveOn.org Political Action and Obey Giant invite you to show your art at the Democratic National Convention at the Manifest Hope Gallery in Denver!
Art plays a pivotal role in creating cultural momentum. Shepard Fairey’s Obama HOPE poster is a perfect example of a work of art having immediate impact across the country.
MoveOn.org has partnered with Shepard Fairey to create the Manifest Hope Online Gallery Art Contest.
This is your chance to get involved. Submit your artwork themed around Hope, Change, Progress, Unity and Patriotism—the themes that Obama’s campaign brought to public awareness. You can submit any kind of art: painting, sculpture, collage—any 2D or 3D creation that exemplifies the positive themes of Obama’s campaign.
Submission is quick and simple. Just click here to submit images of your original artwork. MoveOn will be accepting submissions from today through 11:59 a.m. EDT on August 18, 2008.
Of the submitted works, up to 30 pieces selected by our judges will be displayed online in a virtual gallery, and 5 pieces will be shown at the Manifest Hope Gallery show, which will run from Sunday, August 24 to Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. All artwork displayed in the virtual gallery will be auctioned via eBay with all proceeds going to progressive causes.
Grassroots energy is at the core of MoveOn.org. Grassroots energy helped Barack Obama win the primary race. And grassroots energy will help propel Obama to victory in November. Please use your creative ideas to help capture the energy we are experiencing in this campaign season!
Please make sure to read the contest guidelines thoroughly before submitting your work.
Partners of the Manifest Hope Gallery include: MoveOn.org, Upper Playgound, Subliminal Projects, Studio Number One, Evolutionary Media Group, and Obey.

Good morning,
For my work on the presidential election (Swedish Public Television) I will need info about:
1 amount of participants and works
2 will any “name-artist” participate
3 who are to judge the works and who will price them
and of course the most important question:
IS BARACK OBAMA INVOLVED WITH THE FINE ARTS?
Does he visit galleries and museums?
Does he collect, if so what (period, manner, name, sculpture, prints, painting)?
The story I am working on touches my two books on art and New York - 25 years in between. (If you care to I will have the one published late last year “New York, of course” mailed to you.)
I will do a series of interviews in New York from the end of October onwards on WOMEN ART POLITICS Dates have already been set with among others Ghada Amer, Frank Stella, Laurie Simmons, Marilyn Minter, Will Cotton and Chakaia Booker.
Therefore it is of importance that you inform me as early as possible of some of the most prominent results of your competition.
I will need name, email address and where they recide, and then contact them from here.
Thanking you in advance for your help I reamin with best wishes

Ralph,
I don’t think you’ll be getting much more from Joyengine about this, I’d advise you contact Moveon.org for more info. The post was only spreading the word about the contest, and none of us are affiliated with the running of the art show or the competition.
Good Luck///
August 4, 9:04 am Josh HollandI entered your contest with a picture of a hippy dude flashing “V” signs against the backdrop of an American flag. I titled it, “Peace and Freedom, Sisters and Brothers!”
I then learned that Ralph Nader is running against Obama in California on the Peace and Freedom party ticket. I did not intend to endorse Mr. Nader in any way, and would like to change the title to “Down through the Generations, Joy Lives On..”
thanks,
Douglas Keachie
August 5, 9:34 am Douglas KeachieOr you could more accurately call it:
“Grandchild of the 60’s”
The shot was taken this June at the North San Juan Cherry Festivel.
