AIAIAI TRACKS HEADPHONE
14.12.09
The lovely folks at AIAIAI in Denmark kindly sent us a pair of their Tracks Headphones to take for a test drive. We were familiar with AIAIAI products via the internet, but when the real deal showed up we were blown away. The packaging alone will get you to half mast. We took our time unpacking, which felt on par with, if not better than opening a new Apple product. Unveiled, the headphones are so simple they could truly stand alone as a design object. The Tracks were a snap to assemble and we were rockin’ out in minutes. We happen to have a somewhat massive and highly-tuned sound system here at C13 HQ, so we rarely use headphones. To reacquaint our ears with the intimate headphone setting, we slapped on a pair of Sony MDR-V500 we had laying around. Swapping between the Sony’s and AIAIAI’ Tracks, the latter were significantly more bassy (a trait we certainly enjoy). The only downside to the Tracks was the noise insulation – if you’re pumping tunes, well, everyone else is gonna know it. This is obviously inherent in the design (the Sony’s fully enclose your ear, while the AIAIAI’s foam just sits atop). Other than that, the Tracks look beautiful, sound great, and anyone with even the slightest aesthetic sense ought to geek out over the packaging.
Oh and on a side note, you can get these as a headset, meaning it’s iPhone compatible (mic and everything)!

Great work from

are the ear pieces angled? my sony headphones are angled like this L/ \R so they go with your ears. my wesc headphones are not, like this: L| |R so they crush your ears over time.
December 15, 11:09 am will- Will: The ear pieces are on ball joints, so they follow your head when on. The earpieces in the last photo should really be lower – that was just their position when we unpacked them.
December 15, 2:45 pm Lucian FoehrNot to be a Debbie Downer but these things are looking pretty cheap and flimsy. Any thoughts on the construction? I only point this out because I have sent out hate letters to Sony about how crumby the design and build of their headphones are and how it causes them to break or malfunction in a matter of weeks. I have a box of busted up headphones that I shake my fist at as I write this.
December 15, 8:08 pm huthbot- Debbie Huth: Cheap and flimsy no, delicate – possibly. Not sure what you do with your headphones on… we generally sit at our desks or walk at a moderate pace. Both of which wouldn’t bring harm to the Tracks.
December 16, 9:29 am Lucian FoehrI like to establish dominance in herds of big horned sheep while listening to some hot new Lenny Kravitz tracks, but over the top headphones were just not designed for head butting, better I stick with an in-ear set up.
