cypher13 has a rad little project coming up with our friends over at Action Marketing Group. It involves a dozen munnies, a bunch of paint, and hopefully some lasers… Sorry, no sharks though.

This may be a bit premature, as the piece is incomplete, but I think Krez’ll let me off the hook… Brian has been workin’ some real magic with his Cintiq tablet. His latest sneaker illustrations (which are too top-secret to share, but will hopefully be seen here eventually…) are seriously off the hook. Krezel has taken his newly evolved style of digital painting, adapted specifically for sneaker rendos and applied it to some new, personal illustration. This piece is unfinished, but clearly headed for glory. Personally, I hold my breath for little gems like this from Krez to land in my inbox. Exhale.

Friday, December 5 from 6-9PM enjoy Doubek’s one-of-kind flash card paintings in his solo show, ALPHABET MARMALADE, at Rock the Cradle (18 S Broadway) . His newest line features a complete alphabet of fun and quirky mixed medium paintings on recycled wood panels as seen through his peculiar lens. Each piece depicts a certain letter of the alphabet as told by responsible critters, fast cars and feathery friends of royalty. All pieces are priced below $150.00 for that pocket friendly holiday.

Just got a sneak peek of Adam Haynes latest piece, Patio Trasero Paradiso for Wood Pushers at Hecklewood Gallery in Portland, Oregon. It’s a frikin’ awesome 12″ x 17″ acrylic painting on a 2″ thick pine cutting board. Looks like quite a show. If you’re in Portland tomorrow… well, you know.

We just wrapped up some new illustrations of the team over here at cypher13. We think they came out so well, we’re trying to use them everywhere we can - including a soon to be revealed, top secret project.

Markham Maes, the shittiest of kittens, never ceases to amaes. Markham is a rare creature, and an artist in the purest sense. In a time where computers and all things digital prevail, Markham sticks to pencils, pens, paints, paper, canvas and sometimes wood. He’s been know to work on paintings in his car while stopped at traffic lights. Sure, we scan his work once in a while or digitally manipulate it for various commercial appliques, but when it comes to his real artwork - that shit is analog - all day long. And yeah, lots of artists still work almost entirely old school with little to no reliance on the computer, but Markham takes it to the extreme. Can you name the last person you know who hand-drew screen printed and hand-painted their announcements for their latest show, themselves? I can, it’s Markham Maes and he’s a gem of creative talent. But, blah, blah, blah, see for yourself - and be sure to check out his latest body of work entitled Letters and Ladies on December 12th at the D-Note.

Tran and I are both super excited to have one of our favorite artists and good friend Scot Lefavor show at The Fabric Lab on Saturday December 13th. East Colfax is going to be running shit on Second Saturday, alongside Lefavor, Anthony Cozzi will be opening his first solo show Snow & Light at The Shoppe, and the second opening of the Square Footage show will be dropping a few doors down at Plastic Chapel. Hopefully we’ll see you there… we need a secret hand sign or something… second though maybe not… a hand sign on could lead to a variety of mostly illegal activites around the way, keep your digits occupied or in your pockets.

cypher13 is wrapping up a series of 9 custom laser-etched skate decks for an upcoming exhibition in Denver. The exhibition, entitled Bordo Bello is a component of the AIGA’s mentorship program run by Matt Bargell and will be held on December 12th (boards go on display Dec. 5th) at the Access Gallery. Italian for “Beautiful Board,” Bordo Bello is a mentorship-based design initiative where students and graphic design professionals team up to design the underside surface of a skateboard deck to create a unique visual statement. This project marks our second of many to come collabs with our bro Kurt Barbee of 5280 lasers and our first formal partnership with the AIGA. Pics of all 9 completed decks coming soon… And, oh other featured designer/artists include David Carson of David Carson Design and Mike Strassburger of Modern Dog.
