In honor of their fourth birthday, Scott Harrison’s Charity Water is attempting to drill (and broadcast live) their 200th water project. They’re in the village of Maole in the Central African Republic and things are not going smoothly. The people of Moale have been waiting for clean drinking water for more than a decade and it looks like they’ll have to wait another day…

Our studio takes on lots of identity design and identity design related projects. Identity design is one of our favored disciplines. Occasionally, we’re asked to perform identity work under incorrect auspices. As designers it’s easy to leap at the opportunity to design a new identity, and further make your mark on the world. It’s far more difficult to thoroughly assess an identity design or redesign opportunity and determine that perhaps a more subtle approach could and should be taken. Design Assembly contributor, Kate Nielsen, elaborates on the infinitely subjective notion of identity design and pits it against some very honest and objective thinking.

Yesterday morning, September the 6th, at around 10AM, the foothills of the northwestern border of our community caught fire. High mid-day winds fueled the fire’s growth. At this point in time the precise nature of what has been named the Fourmile Canyon Fire has not been fully disclosed, but in all likelihood the fire was the result of a propane tank explosion. Currently the fire has consumed somewhere between 3500 and 7000 acres. Included in that acreage were numerous homes and other structures. Additional homes and structures could still be lost. Our deepest condolences go out to all those who lost (or may still lose) their homes, and with them, countless irreplaceable memories.

Fighting fires in the mountains of Colorado is difficult, and the professionals and volunteers alike that do it are exceptionally well-trained and brave individuals. To them, we send our thanks and best wishes.

ARTCRANK Denver will open on Saturday, September 4 at the Lisa Kowalski Gallery in Denver’s River North Arts District. The show will feature the work (predominantly poster art) of 57 local artists and run through Saturday, September 11. All poster editions will be limited to runs of 30. Individual posters will be on sale for $30. Arrive early because posters will sell out fast! Artcrank will also serve as a kick-off to the Denver edition of the Bicycle Film Festival, which is scheduled for September 9-11.

In that spirit, plan on biking down to the opening night party on Septemeber 4: Bike Denver is setting us up for valet bike parking in the evening, and the folks at Denver B-cycle are offering a sweet deal on annual memberships with every poster purchase. The poster party will roll on from 1:00 p.m. ’til 11:00 p.m

We are especially sad to announce that TWEEEEET, the curated designer Twitter aggregator, designed and built by cypher13 & Quick Left and powered by Twitter’s API, breathed its last joyous breath early yesterday morning. As of 8AM Pacific Time, Tuesday the 31st of August, Twitter officially switched its API third party sign-on method from Basic Auth to OAuth and in so doing ended TWEEEEET’s short but, glorious life. Collectively, due to busy schedules, and a shared commitment to continually moving forward we have chosen not to support the sign-on method transition. Subsequently, you can say goodbye to TWEEEEET. RIP.
