“With natural reefs under threat throughout the globe’s oceans, the sculptures act as the perfect stable surfaces needed for coral to grow. Fish, turtles, sea urchins, sponges and sharks have also started to recolonise the area.” Via – Huck Magazine
Ojo Por Ojo (Eye For Eye) is the title of Shitty Kitten’s new show at Plastic Chapel which opens February 14th! Can you tell me a better way to spend Valentine’s Day?… suriously? Shitty Kitten aka Markham Maes always comes full force, his last show on East Colfax nearly sold out… I’d suggest rolling through early if you’d like to get your greasy little mits on a piece. The super block will be lit up that night… with shows also running at The Fabric Lab (Photogrpaher: Ryan Resch) as well as The Shoppe (Theo Knox).
This Saturday is shaping up to be one for the books. Tons of goodness happening around town, so get out early and start making rounds. Personally I’m super stoked on the line-up that we’ve put together along the sunny and vibrant corridor of East Colfax. Scot Lefavor shows us all how to improve our lives ten fold, in his solo show Products For A Better Living at The Fabric Lab. Snowblinded (Anthony Cozzi) will be burning retnas & birthing pure light, with his first solo show Snow & Light at The Shoppe. And last but not least Plastic Chapel channels the power of time and space in the second opening of the Square Footage show.
7PM – 11PM : The Shoppe 3101 E. Colfax : The Fabric Lab 3105 E. Colfax : Plastic Chapel 3109 E. Colfax
Excellent show as always from the guys at First Amendment. Great artists, great prints, and great music. I also picked up an awesome zine by Mike Davis of Twelve Car Pileup and got an awesome Obey poster for free! Check the flicks and enjoy!

Remember the Chinese artwork from Robischon Gallery (Denver) in February? Well here be some picts from the mix. These are sculptures from the show. Technically, these are astounding, specifically the gum sticks. We couldn’t see any brushstrokes so it looked like it was stenciled but who knows? Man, I should have asked one of the people there.
Lifesize jacket.
This was about three feet tall.
This dude’s hair curled up because of how fresh the sculpture was in back of him. It made his hair curl super perfect like! I’m so jealous.
So fresh and so clean. I should have bought this. It was going for about $10k.
This made me hungry for boobies. This was about 8 feet tall.
I felt bad for this two feet long sculpture. It was just chillin’ on the table as people were putting their complimentary brewskies right next to it. It was a fun party with more older people. One server hooked us up real nice.
I still got more picts from the show. Maybe I’ll post them up later. Word?
We consider ourselves lucky that we’ve been super busy, that we get to have our friends art adorning the walls of our gallery, shop, studio (and not necessarily in that order) and that day by day more and more people are opening up, becoming receptive, and really feeling what we’re(everyone included – you know who you are) doing with JoyEngine and our design firm, cypher13. We’d like to take a minute and thank everyone that’s contributed both big and small to the enjoyment reaped ,particularly by those of us working out of 2037 13th Street. We love our jobs, The latest incarnation of JoyEngine.com has been a blast, and we’re proud of the contributions (however small they are) we’ve collectively made to our greater Colorado art & design scene. Cheers… to progress.
While Todd and Lucian will be broin down with their favorite vendors at the ASR show in San Diego next week, I will be attending the New Los Angles International Contemporary Art Fair. Art L.A. is a contemporary art fair that showcases thirty galleries from the Los Angeles area and thirty galleries from the rest of the planet. Since I haven’t had a chance to attend any of the larger art fairs like Basel or Frieze this ought to be a good introduction to the whole realm of art fairs in general. While I have my own opinions about the amount of art and design fairs throughout the year and the impact they have on the art and design world, I’ll reserve my comments until I’ve experienced one first hand. I’m looking forward to both escaping the cold and the opportunity to check in with some of my favorite galleries. Be sure to check back in a couple of weeks for another post and some images from the show.
