In a world full of corporate clutter, mega corp fallouts and the weakening dollar, how do you restore comfort to the masses during a time when familiarity is being jeopardized… authenticity. The connotation of authenticity is often aligned with nostalgia - so what better system to restore merit in a brand than using the throw-back. It’s a great way to confirm your brand’s morality without getting on a soap box and preaching to the choir or changing your methodology. We’ve seen it in pro sports with the throw-back jerseys and the increasing attacks on performance enhancers. Ford has been using more of the original cursive typography from its heritage, and now, Starbucks has done it. With increasing prices on coffee and a growing number of attacks on the brand, Starbacks is bringing back the original brown logo created in 1971. My only questions is, without a change in behavior, what do you do in thirty years when you need to rely on authenticity, again?
