GLAMOUR SHOTS OF ALEX HENRY

By: Lucian Foehr

Believe or not, there was a point in time when our business partner and art & design ally, Alex Henry (new website on the way) dreampt of being a famous male model… little did we know, until today when we found all of Alex’s headshots on one of our old Macs. Upon taking this up with Alex he was a bit flustered and a little uncomfortable. He soon came clean and revealed his dream. It’s kind of personal so we’re gonna keep it ourselves, but we will share some of his better headshots with you. Enjoy.

NOTE: Alex is our resident Photoshop retouching expert. We chose to post the raw, untouched pics just to sting him a bit.

Matt Gleason on Shepard Fairey

By: JoyEngine

I stumbled upon this interview this morning and was not only disturbed by Matt Gleason’s (editor of Coagula Art Journal) opinion of Shepard Fairey, but found him to be a total asshole. AFter a little recon it seems like many folks have the same opinion. Funny, cuz just yesterday I was involved in some fairly deep discussion about keeping blog based content (particularly ours) positive and avoiding the online dis at all costs. Well, fuck it. Art critics must just really love to hear themselves talk. Jackass, keep your ethereal definitions of art to yourself. The sad thing is I couldn’t help but listen as my ears continued burning. It amazes that people can make careers and be fulfilled by talking shit about artists and their work. Somebody needs to sort out his own issues. If you’ve got the time, listen to the entire interview and form your own opinion.

SO YOU LIKE TOYS?

By: JoyEngine

So do we. During an office cleaning session, we decided to line up some of the toys we had laying around. We were pretty happy with the turn out and decided to open up a competition to our readers. Think you have a better toy collection? Send in your pics and well put ‘em up and have a vote (Dee and Dave, you’re out of the running, we know you could crush us.)

THE PASSING OF “SWIMMY” – A SAD DAY AT JOYENGINE…

By: JoyEngine

Swimmy was our pride and joy. He was a perpetual source of inspiration and always brought smiles to our faces. On Sunday, July 29th Swimmy became ill. We did everything we could to improve his health and keep him comfortable in his time of need, however, his condition worsened into Monday. By mid-day Monday Swimmy reached the point of no return. We did our best to ease his suffering. It was rough around the shop the past couple days, and still is as we prepare for his funeral and memorial service this evening at 10pm sharp outside JoyEngine. In Swimmy’s death we shall celebrate his life. There will never be another like him. He will be deeply, deeply missed. His memory however will remain with us forever. We love you Swimmy, may you rest in peace and watch over us from above.

R.I.P. Swimmy : 2004 – 2007

SWIMMY MEMORIAL SERVICE:
Tonight, 10pm sharp out front of Joyengine

NOTE #1: The ceremony will be brief and will be followed by an evening of heavy drinking. Swimmy would’ve wanted it that way.
NOTE #2: Lifter Baron, we’re sorry you can not be here. Swimmy, in his infinite wisdom certainly understands. You can pay your proper respects upon your return.

“OG” ART KID – SCOT LEFAVOR AT JOYENGINE FRIDAY MAY 11TH

By: JoyEngine

The Original Art Gangsta, Scot Lefavor is back at it, but this time he’s runnin’ a slightly new program. Scot’s rockin’ some new techniques, bringin’ in some new content, runnin’ a bit of a mash-up if you will – and it’s lookin’ FRESH! Here’s a quick glimpse into Lefavor’s little arty world leading up to his new show, “FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY” – An art show for you! Scot’ll be droppin’ all new, original works of art as for as low $150.00. Come on down to the Engine, support Boulder’s very own Scot Lefavor, and please, please don’t get frikin’ wasted like a lot of the idiots at our shows like to do. You really look like a jackass wasted at an art opening. It’s about the art, remember?

THE MAKING OF AN AD

By: JoyEngine

The JoyEngine team just decided to include an ad in the Boulder Weekly’s annual Best of Boulder (arriving this Thursday). With just the afternoon to put something together, the JE team rallied, came up with a concept, hunted down some resources, shot some photos and got busy in Photoshop… creating a full-page (10” x 12”) color ad.

Enjoy.

THE YUMMIES STOPPED BY…

By: JoyEngine

The mysterious, always costumed, Yummies crew popped in the shop today. They caused all sorts of ruckus, gave Small-But-Dangerous a hair cut, stole all the throat lozenges and replaced all our printer cartages (uh, thanks guys). They soon felt awful about the whole ordeal and left us with this nice little graphic. All I can say is Donut Dave is one funny mother…

“WHAT IS THIS PLACE, WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO?”

By: JoyEngine

We get that one a lot. Here’s our answer.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: No one in our crew actually knows how to play golf.

* CORRECTION: Lefavor claims he was in the LPGA for like a week, or something.

5:09AM – FRIDAY THE 13TH

By: JoyEngine

The South wall is hung. We’re ready for Mr. Holland. It was burly… it always is, but we think we nailed it this time. Josh’s work should start rollin’ around noon. Doors open at 4:30. Prepare to crap your pants. Scot and I think we just did… whoops! But, it comes down to this: What the hell was Alex about to get into with 2 chicks and a big-ass pizza at 2:00am? Would you like some sausage with that?

RANDOM SIDENOTES:
1.) Word on the street is that Ray Young Chu is bringing Kimchi for everyone!
2.) Some sources might say Small-BUT-Dangerous is more of a “man” than ever.
3.) Eva may be in the house, yeah, that’s right Eva. F-R-E-S-H!
4.) As much as we all want Shitty to handle his mural up in Summit, Co. We hope it snows so he can’t make it up there and ends up showin’ at Holland’s show
5.) Scot and I should probably go to sleep now… it’s 5:29am
