GSP – 12.31.08 – New Years Eve Party

By: Todd Berger

Our friends in GSP & Freestyle Movement along with a whole stash of their friends are throwing a New Years Eve Party After Party rich in sounds, visuals, and other-worldly experiences.  The After Party, aptly titled Nu Times is at Core Movement Studios, in Boulder and kicks off at 12:30am.  This crew knows how to party.

GreenSpiritProduce (GSP) is an artist collective composed of sound specialists, lyricists, and audiovisual designers. Weaving through multisensory worlds, GSP laces glitchy breakbeats and dubby downtempo grooves alike through visual themes to create a living, breathing, three dimensional multimedia installation…the intention is to breathe new life into the electronic live experience, by utilizing many forms of expression.

Wedding Design

By: JoyEngine

So, if anyone of us in the Boulder Design community were to suddenly get married, how would we assist the Look & Feel of possibly one of the most defining moments of our lives? We all dabble in the most fervent evolutions of our spontaneity, designing product after product for countless of projects and clients that the thought of it crossing into the realms of a ceremony of interpersonal union might not necessarily occur.. but where Cabel Maxfield Sasser & his partner Nicole are concerned, the sentiment was quite contrary in nature; what ensued was a intricate creative collaboration that spanned from Custom Graphics for invitations, stamps, and laser etched Moleskines, to pixellated culinary delights and environmental design. The result came out super rich in miniature projects with attention to detail I totally appreciate. Check out the full set of images here.

365 Opening Recap @ 111 Minna

By: JoyEngine

So between preparing for the show, spending a week out in the Bay, only to come home right in time to perform at Sonic Bloom, it’s been a crazy start to my summer to say the least, but I was finally able to retrieve my images from the opening of 365, which was held at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. with special guests on many creative planes, artist Kris D & ArtNowSF brought together a finely tuned showcase of work from all over the country, and threw a totally legit opening party within the gallery. Featured artists included Kris D, Damon Soule, Gregory Euclide, David Choong Lee, Joshua Mays J Garcia, David Hale, Des10, Rob Pellicer, Xavi, and Myself. Oliver Vernon also made an appearance doing some performance painting, and on the multimedia tip Third Peak brought in great sculptures, and I performed a Visual Set featuring remixes from the show. Musical acts were Daedelus, Free the Robots, Gaslamp Killer, Deru, Alex B, Eliot Lipp & more; they kept the place packed & bumping till late night. Overall the show was super fresh, and I’m humbled for receiving the opportunity to partake in the gathering. Note: if you happen to be in the Bay there will be a closing reception on Friday, June 27th. ArtNowSF brings you a very special edition of their monthly art & dance party Suite Jesus, from 9pm-2am. Performers include VinRoc, I-Vier, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist, Bootleg, and Adam Twelve.

GSP – 4.20 @ THE FOX – THE DOPE SHIT!

By: Todd Berger

The Green Spirit Produce crew, perhas better coined audio-visual superstars, have been hard at work. Real damn hard. Droppin’ refined, yet seriously gritty beats – glitchy breaks to dubby downtempo and puttin’ together some ridiculously fresh visuals. And, it’s all about to explode this Sunday, on 4.20 at the Fox Theatre in our very own little bubble, Boulder CO. Our boy sAne of FreestyleMovement & Conscious Alliance are madd stoked to present GSP and 17 special geusts from both Left and Right coasts in their most grandiose production to date featuring: Goddess Alchemy Project, The FreestyleMovement (runnin’ 3d visuals, droppin’ beats, handlin’ the costume front, and a grip more…) , Emilio Rojas, Aima, SoulEye, Jayce, LYNX, Matt Fuller, G.Harris, Dominic Lalli, Big House & E.Z., Akillimanjaro, Jon Stewart, Pretty Lights, Savoy, Live painting from Michael Garfield, and some extra-sensory visual additions from us, JE.

GSP holds down a heavy creative front in our greater art & design community and represents all that collaboration and the power of sharing ideas can be. Working closely with the FreestyleMovement, GSP and their affiliates(countless djs, artists, designers, and social community-minded thinkers) provide intellectually fueled, content rich media, promoting higher levels of awareness and providing a platform to address and attack the larger looming social issues we’re all aware of, but often afraid to confront.

Personally, I’m just stoked to get to hang with these guys, feel their beats, make art with ‘em, and reap the benefits of their ultra-positive creative vibe. 4.20 is gonna be downright dirty. Change your plans if you’ve already made ‘em and get your ass up to the Fox for what I know is gonna be one of the most ill and mind-blowingly interactive experiences of ‘08. Word to that shit.

Super limited edition posters will be available from sAne the night of the show. You can check some of GSP’s latest drops here. Miss this performance – and you’ll be super sad for sure.

Oh, keep in mind… After Hours sets goin late @ the Core Movement Studio (more info below).

David Hale at Push Gallery

By: JoyEngine

Just this past weekend my good friend David Hale had his most recent art opening at Push Gallery in Asheville, NC. The show consisted of over 40 new pieces by David, painted on an assortment of canvases, skate decks, books, and other found objects. I met David last year through the music festival circuit, both touring from show to show doing live performance paintings, and it’s a pleasure to see his progression reach new levels in the studio. Nice work homie!

sAne – JOINS THE CONTRIBUTOR KREW!!!

By: Todd Berger

sAne is one exceptionally well-rounded individual. He paints, draws, photographs, designs, makes beats, climbs, break dances, and is really, really good at whatever he chooses to participate in. For Adrien’s first ever solo show he covered our gallery in highly illustrative abstracted multi-media paintings on materials ranging from found cabinet doors to canvases.

Originally from Switzerland, Adrien grew up traveling and continues this legacy more than ever. Most things sAne participates in take on a highly multi-media form, and his obsessive curiosity often leads him to revisit, and remix his concepts. When he’s not roaming the earth for inspiration, he works and performs with Green Spirit Produce (GSP), a live audiovisual quintet.  Look for sAne tobe droppin’ all sorts of art & design goodness!

FSM x Root Structure x GSP

By: JoyEngine

Our homies on the beat-making/production front, better known as Green Spirit Produce (GSP) have been makin’ moves. They just dropped their new EP to a sell out crowd last week. We didn’t make the shows (2 nights), but word on the street is that the GSP krew wrecked the place. We did however get to listen to the EP (they dropped a copy by the shop) and we can validate its level of freshness. sAne and his extended Freestyle Movement posse we’re runnin’ the visuals. Adrien (sAne) just sent these pics over. He’s been workin’ on some new apparel designs for the ladies and you can get a glimpse of his latest above. Keep your ears open for more from GSP in the near future. They’re motivated and committed to makin’ fresh beats.

SANE AT REGENERATION

By: JoyEngine

“ReGeneration was a two day festival thrown by sound tribe sector 9, featuring them as well as glitch mob, telefon tel aviv, goddess alchemy project, lyrics born and more.. it took plpace in small but conscious Asheville, NC .. 2000 people showed up, mainstage was very impressive with a super pro lighting rig operated by saxton, and 7 visual artists doing live performance paintings.. they provided a gallery space to showcase/sell our past work as well as newly created pieces.. the visual artists included kris d, j garcia, robpea, catherine stinson, david hale, Des10, and Myself, the latter who i ended up collaborating with a bunch this weekend. the crowd was very open- and supportive- of everyone’s art, i think everyone sold at least 2-3 paintings that weekend.. i was hosted by david hale, who lives in a yurt community nearby… having never stayed inside a yurt, i was utterly surprised by the space and comfort such low impact living can have. working with such an incredible talent pool of artists was humbling in itself, and watching everyone’s progression throughout the weekend was impressive. this weekend also marked my first time swapping paintings with someone else midway through, which proved to be an exciting challenge with surprising results in the end. overall, the energy at the festival was overly positive, and it was a pleasure and honor to have had the opportunity to attend and participate as a visual artist.” – sAne | freestylemovement.com

SANE – NEW T-SHIRT ART AND ILLUSTRATION

By: Lucian Foehr

Our boy sAne (Adrien Robert) of freestylemovement.com, has been drawin’ hi face off. Most recently he’s been creating a sort of sAne-esque forest of palms. Here’s a glimpse into sAne’s process and peek at one of his palms. Most of his digital art begins with pencil, then goes to pen & ink, then comes into illustrator… after that anything goes. Check it out. sAne’s palms’ll be droppin’ on a t-shirt near you soon!

EXTRA-SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The Body Tension Project

This summer sAne is hittin’ the road with the intention of finding Freestyle Movement as a common thread between artists of all types; performers, musicians, scholars, painters, and shakers alike. He will focus on today’s most up and coming forms of art as well as provide formal documentation of past disciplines, and their persistence and evolution in today’s world . He relates today’s emerging subcultural art forms as synonymous to a modern Hip Hop movement, except with many more elements.. His vision will encompass an ethnographic dialogue on underground creative movements, revealed through an extensive photodocumentary, verbal narrative & interviews, and eclectic artistic collaborations. He will turn his findings into his first book and audio compilation for this multi- year project, hopefully by this fall. Stay tuned with us for a more in depth description and website on the project. Until then check in for updates at freestylemovement.com.

sAne’s INSANE – ALL DAY ART SHOOT

By: JoyEngine

sAne, Adrien Robert (currently showing @ JoyEngine), the evil genius behind freestylemovement.com commandeered his homey, Mike Sakas’s nasty-ass ultra-pimpin’ lighting rig and took it upon himself to reshoot all the art in the shop. sAne plowed through over a hundred pieces in about 4 hours. We’ll be droppin’ the new pics in the online store over the next few day. Yeah, sAne, rad bro!

Mike’s lighting rig is totally mobile via a one hell of a battery system. We’re gonna get crazy over the weekend with sAne, shoot loads of pics and literally, litter the site with ‘em next week. Fun, right? You fuckin’ bet. In the iconic words of our hero, Shepard Fairey, “OBEY” the Engine.
