STREET 2 SCREEN!!!

Over the next three days, Kaffeine Buzz, in partnership with the Denver Film Society, present Street-2-Screen: a 3 day festival celebrating graffiti culture and film. Tonight, Street-2-Screen begins the celebration at the Starz FilmCenter (located at 9th & Auraria Parkway in Denver) at 7pm, showcasing the new graffiti documentary movie: BOMB IT. Friday night, the Street-2-Screen Graffiti & Hip-Hop Party keeps the festivities rolling at Falcon Bowl (the newly renovated bowling-alley-meets-venue, next to the Gothic Theatre) at 8pm, for a night of hip-hop, old school and new, live graffiti, b-boys, graffiti video mashups via the DVJ skills of An-ism and the Denver-based, internationally renowned Magnet Mafia crew. Street-2-Screen wraps up the celebration with a Graffiti Panel Day at the Starz FilmCenter on Saturday, with two panels, Education and Commerce, starting at 2:00pm. Denver’s graffiti artists will join civic leaders, city officials and community directors to discuss the past, present and future aspects of graffiti in Denver, ways to combat vandalism, and the programs that embrace graffiti art in a positive way. These panels are free and open to the public. Sounds like a very intriguing weekend… Get into it Colorado!

BARCELONA GRAFFITI PICS FROM MR. DUPRE

Our buddy Grant, day-in-day-out designer/co-conspirator with art/design wizard, Brian Krezel over at SID FACTOR SEVEN and one of the product design gurus behind scapegoat sent over some really sweet graf pics from a recent trip to Baracelona. Grant shared with us, so we thought we’d share with you… until your next trip to Spain.

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

We all know what happens when graffiti starts popping up in the neighborhood… It’s followed by broken windows, burning cars, increased drug sales, poverty, and all out chaos, or at least former NYC Mayor Ed Koch would like to think so. We on the other hand, think it’s fuckin’ great. NAM went big in our alley two nights ago and we figured we should share his work. Odds are good it won’t last long. For Boulder, this is a nasty little piece in a relatively hi-profile spot. We think it really helps tie the community together. Big-ups for sure.

NIFTY GRAFF FLICKS FROM ABROAD

Our good homie Mark from toofy.com took a quick trip over to Spain and Portugal to handle some shit and caught some rad throw-ups and pieces. He did what every good person who loves graffiti should and captured them in a “Kodak moment” to share with all of you. Here is what he had to say, “Hey, I just got back from my trip to Spain and Portugal. I had a great time and met a lot of interesting people. I witnessed some superb aerosol pieces but unfortunately was not able to document a good number of them due to driving by them at highway speed. Here’s what I did photograph…”

MORE FROM MARK SIEBERT (TOOFY MARK)

Mark did more than take advantage of the wall art in Spain and Portugal, he caught some quite impressive pieces in L.A. as well. These posts make me wish I took more trips across the world to see the array of talented “villainous vigilante activity” sometimes refered to as artwork. It actually makes me sick to know people are hesitant to give these guys credit for the time and talent it takes to put completely selfless pieces of work on a temporary canvas (buildings, signs, walls), all for a viewer they may never meet. Whoa. First, take a short breath and sneek a peek at the L.A. street art captured via technologically advanced photographic equipment/ Mark’s keen eye. Next, go out and do something you love just to do it, or maybe because you’ve been on the internet too long today.

AEROSOL - VOL. 5

Here is the 5th installation to the “AEROSOL” posts. Same deal, same spot, same sick steez… The only thing that’s changed are the artists. This spot is super cool and I recommend everyone that has the opportunity check it out for themselves sometime. Until then, bask in the JE blog and love it while you can.

MORE GRAFFITI FROM JAPAN

Our homey McDavid sent over a some more sick Japanese graffiti pics amidst his stint in Japan. The more I see the more I start to realize how much raw talent there is out there. These are all from around the Tokyo area. From what I’ve heard, Tokyo has tons of little hidden alley ways and nifty little stashes like these that keep most of the graf out of sight. Most passerbyers wouldn’t even look twice but our boy has a keen eye for painted walls and sticker lit signs. Thanks man, keep ‘em comin’.
