Thunderheist just got signed by Big Dada (who released Diplo and SpankRock’s first LPs). So far it has been super difficult to get any tracks by these Mavericks (yes, real Mavericks, not hockey moms from Alaska). But hopefully by March 2009 you will be able to purchase an entire album. Damn, I can’t wait.
Last week Gallery 1988 opened their latest thematic endeavor, aptly titled titled “Cover Band”. The concept is simple, the gallery chose from some of the most beloved albums of all-time and handed them off to an eclectic grouping of artists for defacing. The results were mixed, but overall an interesting experiment. Some notable participants include Alex Pardee, Krista Huot, McBess, Jim Mahfood and Shannon Bonatakis.
The following are some snippets of my favorite pieces from this show. Check out the original artwork if you’re unfamiliar, there’s some really clever stuff in there.

The SOFT&FURRY™ show has come down from Plastic Chapel and moved on over to our very own studio/store front. We’ve also put all of the toys on our online store. If you didn’t make it to the show, this is a great way to see all the toys (huge thanks to Adam Mattivi for the photos). These toys are all one of a kind and crafted with love!
Interesting post on the NY Times website a couple days ago, relating physical size to victory, in the history of US presidential elections. Whether or not it holds water, we’ll see, but it’s an interesting graphical exercise none the less. That being said, in this years election, may the best (and tallest) man win.
Banksy’s done it again. A tiny little pet store opened four days ago in NY where a rabbit puts on her makeup, McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets sip barbecue sauce, and a CCTV camera nurtures its young. Wow-pretty impressive. More at woostercollective.com
Jay Walker, founder of think tank Walker Digital, and Priceline.com is WEALTHY. And with this accumulated wealth, he has assembled the most amazing collection of stuff any geek could ever hope to lock himself away with. Possibly the most amazing collection of stuff on the planet.
Wired Magazine usually writes better articles than me, so I think you should probably head over there and check out this piece on Jay’s amazing collection of really rare, really expensive stuff.
Burlesque needs to get rid of all their scratched and dented posters! All slightly dinged or misprinted prints will be up for sale in a mystery tube that will include: 2 posters designed by Burlesque, 1 poster they printed for someone else (think Upper Playground), a random cd, a bunch of stickers and a random t-shirt. ALL OF THIS FOR JUST $40 ($45 international)! Tubes go on sale after 2pm tomorrow online. Don’t sleep!
I have to say that when you are swamped eith work, it’s pretty damn hard to find the time for personal work. But although buried deep on a “yet to be disclosed” new project, Oscar seems to find the time to keep his mind going. Initial sketch and color study below…
*small side note…these ALWAYS end up in my email no earlier than 2am. And regularly. Nice one dude… now back to work!
Here are a few images from Matt Doubek’s October 4th opening at Charmingwall Gallery in New York City. He even got the opportunity to paint the wall. Again, Matt Doubek goes above and beyond with his creativity and ability to paint! Amazing! A song should be dedicated to him.
I had the great opportunity a few days ago of making the acquaintance of a cool designer/illustrator from the UK by the name of Greg Abbott. Greg’s work is fabulous!!!! It is clean, structured, maintained, and most of all witty. For a young designer/illustrator (I will not post his age, for fear of belittling even myself) he has alot of talent. Check out his work, it is fresh……. not fresh like my breath in the morning, but fresh like in something to admire and look forward to seeing more of.
Greg is working on a site (aren’t we all) but for now you can check out some of his work at:
After Scot’s fantasimal work for the Manifest Hope show in Denver during the DNC, he has done some much deserved basking in its wake. Scot doesn’t sit still for long, and after swinging by his site to see whats new in his world, I noticed he has added some tasty treats to his store. Make sure to swing by and check out some of the limited run Obama posters, unsold work from the Manifest Hope show and delightful little trinkets from shows long past.
It’s Monday, October the 6th and the last day to register to vote in Colorado for the November election. Go to voteforchange.com. Or, if you’re close to the cypher13 HQ off Pearl Street in Boulder, you can come by to register to vote. Let’s make a change!
Wes Winship of Burlesque does Obama. Poster will be available soon at Upper Playground, adding to their growing collection of Obamanalia. Keep your eyes peeled for it’s drop. Nice work Wes!
