JOYENGINE: cause sharing is cool

Our buddy, Denver art super hero, Jason Thielke is in the midst of building a new studio.  We got to see a few sneak peaks over the weekend and it looks like construction is coming along nicely.  We can’t wait to see where Jason takes his work with a little more space to let his mind roam.  it’s rumored that Jason has a new website in the works… Hopefully more on that soon.

And, continuing on the studio tip… we’ve been workin’ on a little arty spot of our own just down the street from our current studio.  We moved in with our pal, Joseph Shaeffer a few months back, but have yet to really get settled.  With a handful of art projects happening (Yay!) we’re gonna be in the studio a great deal more in the coming months (sorry Joe - you’ll be ok…).   Hopefully, we’ll get the place all dialed in and drop some pics soon.

We were lucky enough to inherit all of Ogi’s pieces that didn’t sell at his recent show at Stripes Gallery. They’re all hung on the opposite side of Jon Lew’s “NEW” show, so be sure to check ‘em out if you come out on Friday night. If you’re unfamiliar with Ogi’s work, he’s an artist living in Tokyo and has shown at the likes of the Giant Robot gallery, White Walls and Kidrobot, Los Angeles. We are unbelievably happy to have Ogi’s work on display (and for sale).

P.S. If you haven’t been by lately, we also have some larger than life pieces from Jason Thielke’s “Young Dude” series, plus a Thielke x Rafa Jenn collab! And, oh don’t forget… there’s always at least one Lefavor on display. Yeah Scot!!!

Jason Thielke has cemented and repeatedly reaffirmed his place amongst todays leading progressive contemporary artists. He did it again on Saturday, January 12th at Limited Addiction Gallery and we were all there to see it. The whole crew was out, extra-inspired, and aligned in full support of Jason. Frankly, the whole evening was pretty special. A big thanks and fat props go out to Dave Smith and the whole LAG team for supporting Jason and hosting a spectacular exhibition of his work. Have a look at how it all went down…

PSiLOVEU, Jason Thielke’s latest body of work opens tomorrow night at Denver’s own Limited Addiction Gallery. We just spoke with Dave Smith, good bro and the owner/curator at LAG and according to Dave, Jason’s show is off to a spectacular start!!! Thielke and LAG teamed up to produce a limited edition, signed and numbered run of 25 giclee prints on hahnemuhle velvet paper. The prints are already sold out… and they just dropped yesterday! Dave has held on to 5 prints for the opening and they’ll be available first come, first serve at 7pm on Saturday night.

The response to Thielke’s latest round of figurative work has been overwhelming, to say the least. We just took a lookat LAG’s site and lots of Jason’s work has already sold. It’s going fast. We can’t convey how excited we are for both Jason and LAG, two of the more significant and iconic entities gracing our local art landscape. Their partnership represents some of the best of the best happening in contemporary art. Period. We’ve speculated since Dave offered Jason this show as to just how significant it could be, and we’re pleased to announce it’s set to exceed all expectation. Congrats guys. Nice work.

Jason Thielke will be taking center stage at Limited Addiction Gallery this Saturday, January 12th with his latest works entitled, “PSiLOVEU.” Based on LAG’s reputation within the art world it’s safe to say that this is Jason’s biggest and perhaps most significant solo show to date. He’s been preparing meticulously in typical Thielke fasion and producing some truly spectacular work. Personally, I feel that LAG teaming up with Thielke is the start to a brilliant future for not just Jason and LAG, but for the entire Front Range art community. It’s been a bit since I was this excited about viewing one of my friends bodies of work. You’ll have to wait until Saturday to see the whole show, but in the mean time, here’s a sample of what’s in store.

We’re honored to have Jason Thielke’s Young Dudes series, including portaits of TEEBEE, Scot Lefavor, and SBD now hanging in our hybrid studio/gallery space. They’re huge, the photos hardly do them justice, so we highly suggest you come check them out in person. Thielke has what could and should be his biggest solo show to date coming up at Limited Addiction Gallery in January and it seems appropriate to provide him a little additional exposure on the run in.

The piece was stolen from Shoe Shine at the end of the night along with a number of other original works of art. It’s 9″ tall x 6″ wide. If you would like to return the piece to its rightful owner you may do so by dropping it off either here, at JoyEngine, at The 400, or at Limited Addiction Gallery. No questions will be asked upon its return.

Jason Thielke, Todd Berger, Alex Henry, sAne, and Lucian Foehr are in the midst of an ongoing artist series collaboration with Timberland™. We’re collaboratively designing footwear and applying art to both footwear and all sorts of apparel. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the first round sample hoodies and 100% organic cotton long sleeve tees to be dropping in the fall of 2008.

Jason Thielke’s latest show entitled “CMYK” opened September 7 (we know it’s a little late) at Art & Soul Gallery right here in Boulder on Pearl Street (3 blocks from us). Once again, Thielke impressed us all with his super fresh, totally unique style in one of our favorite genres: sexy women. Jason ran with a complete CMYK color palette, one of his best colorways yet. We consider Thielke a bit of a color virtuoso and his transition to CMYK was seamless. The content, compostitions, and application were spot on in typical Thielke fashion. Stop on by Art & Soul for some inspiration.

Two of Boulder/Denver’s most prolific artists team up to shake things up at Art & Soul. You don’t wanna miss this one! But, if you did we’ve got some pics below (Lefavor only - except for the collab). Sorry we don’t currently have any Thielke pics. Maybe next time Scot’s dad will think about an artist other than his son… Oh, and papa Lefavor, no flash needed next time. This gallery is well lit. Word.

” Working in close collaboration with Timberland™ JoyEngine & Cypher13 helped concept and bring to life “The Collective.” “The Collective is a collaboration of athletes and artists conceived in partnership with shoemakers and technology experts. The Collective is a mash-up of ideas and influences, functions and features. All to create atheletically capable, artistically expressive footwear.” The artist side of The Collective is comprised of Adrien “sAne” Robert, Alex “JR” Henry, Jason Thielke, and Todd “teebee” Berger. The first round of artwork adorns the “Factur” and the “Factur Lace” and the kicks will begin dropping worldwide sometime around January/February of ‘08. Other gear and new footwear styles will follow for the fall of ‘08 as will new, fresh, graphics on both Factur variants.

“The Collective” Spring 2008 lineup previewed at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City, UT last week and folks were fired up. sAne and teebee were out there for the most of the week hangin’ out, kickin’ it with the Timberland™ crew, and creating some live, booth-side art. The OR preview ended with a typically JoyEngine arty party inside the Timberland™ booth. sAne dropped beats and ran some live freestyle graphics via laptop to a massive projector screen, all at the same time while Todd sceenprinted a grip of custom Timberland™ artist series t-shirts for all in attendance.
