NEW WORK FROM MORTEN ANDERSEN

Our pal Morten Andersen over in Denmark just wrapped up a show (Die Post Ist Da!) with Aro and our boy HYP over in Berlin. The show looked amazing from the pics we’ve seen. Here’s a sample of some of Morten’s most recent paintings from the gallery he shows at in Paris.  I’ve been paying close attention to Morten’s work for close to two years now, and damn…  Mr. Andersen has raised the bar and his work more than stands on its own.  No arguing that.

HYP - BERLIN SERIES LACELOCKS

Mike HYP has been working on some new shit!  He just dropped off some super fresh lacelocks that are lazer etched HYP style.  They’ll be available for purchase at his Berlin opening at Intoxicated Demons May 9th.

NEW WORK FROM HYP.

NEW WORK FROM HYP. Mr. HYP has been crankin’ - as always.  Gotta admit, the man is steppin’ up his game.  Mike is involved in a group show in April back home in his favored region, the Pacific Northwest, Seattle to be specific (still foggy on all the details).  Mike shot us some electronic mail this morn. to give us a look-see.  There’s some stellar conceptual thinking  behind HYP’s latest works.  Here’s what Mike had to say about this new deck, “The theme for me was to create something that evoked my heritage as a denizen of the great Pacific Northwest, and I landed on the concept of combining the city’s nickname (Emerald City) and a broadstroke reference to Mt. Hozomeen from ‘Dharma Bums’ where Kerouac tried to get his life back.”  Right on bro.  HYP’s gonna be goin’ international this summer, showing with Morten Andersen in Berlin if I’m correct… more on those two soon.  Yeahhhh boyz!!!

HYP - SHOWING AT JOYENGINE DECEMBER 14th, 2007

Mike Hyp, ex-Nike head, currently Spyder’s new Director of Graphic Design is a bit of a vector virtuoso… among other things (father, beatmaker, artist, designer, all-around rad guy). Mike transplanted himself and his family to Bouler a bit ago via Portland, and he brings all the arty/designerly shit you’d expect (and then some) from someone living and working in the Pacific Northwest’s most forward-thinking city. HYP’s been gettin’ after it puttin’ together one of most unique bodies of work we’ve seen in some time. He’s pushing his innate and somewhat ornate illustrative steez to the limit and applying it to all sorts of alterntive media, ranging from skate decks (long and short) to mirrors, posters, and tees among other yet to be announced items. After months of working with a friend up in Portland to dial in the intricacies of lazer etching various materials, they’ve got it dialed and HYP’s product-centric artwork is starting to shine.

HYP will be showing (more like “showing off”) here at the Engine on Friday, December 14th. Save the date and start preppin’ to freak on all of Mike’s new work. We can’t wait.

HYP… IN BERLIN… STREET ART MADNESS!

Our buddy HYP just got back from Berlin on a little recon/product design & development mission. Here’s what he had to say about the scene, “Just got back from Berlin - retail is going off there, mhi Maharishi was in just about every store and still killing it with the all over prints. Actually saw Jill Sanders pieces and vintage Hermes scarves being sold next to the MADVILLIAN vinyl (both green and dark blue color variants) and the Arktip book done by José Parla with the brush included, all in one shop. Fukin strange mixup, eh?” Yeah Mike, I’d say, but super dope for sure.

HYP put together a little street art package of pics for us to share. We’re not name droppin’ on these. You think you’re into street art? Well, test your knowledge. Name the artists that produced these pieces, send it to us and we’ll put together a tight little care package for ya. Frist one to name all 11 (don’t worry about the wheels) gets the goods. Email info@joyengine.com to submit your artist list. Thanks HYP.

NOTE: HYP’s gonna be showin’ at the Engine in December. He’s puttin’ together a seriously ill body of work, we’ve seen bits of pieces and it’s gonna be hot. More on that shit later.
