Boulder architect Mike Moore of tres birds workshop invited us to concept and paint a mural on a Denver building he’s improving.  Mike was handed the task of increasing the energy efficiency of 3330 Larimer while making it more aesthetically pleasing to potential creatively minded tenants.  The developer Mike is working with chose perhaps our most contemporary and forward concept making for an exceptionally fun cypher13 project.  Thanks Mike!  All of our concepts can be seen here.

ARTCRANK Colorado Sat. April 11th

By: Todd Berger

ARTCRANK Minneapolis 2009 looked super rad.  The Tran/Josh x Celeste/Lifter twatter left us a bit jealous.  But, we’ve got a feelin’ the Colorado posse’s gonna hold shit down too.  On that note – we just wrapped our posters with our man Ray at Good Thoughts on the press – and damn… tasty work, Ray.  Here’s a preview of PROPER TRANSPORTATION by cypher13 starring Mike Moore, Miria Moore, Maya Moore, and Maya Moore’s dolly.  Saturday the 11th is gonna be poppin’!!! We’re just happy to have been invited to play.  Thanks ARTCRANK.

THOUGHTS from tres birds workshop.

By: Todd Berger

“You have the capacity to resist immediate judgment, to reject a world of prescribed dualities…good and evil, right and wrong, traditional and modern. It is this ability to use our senses, without preconceptions, that opens our lives to direct experience. It allows us to discover the “real thing,” the thing we long to know but that is hidden in a world full of symbols and information. Symbols regenerate, each life cycle bringing us no closer to truth.”

“At tres birds workshop, symbology and stylistic references are absent from our work. Inhabitants of our built forms are encouraged to experience the materiality, the structure, and the resulting light and shadows with their senses wide open. With our clients, we rediscover the real thing. We expose the very essence of materials, stripped of association, allowing those materials to vibrate. The forms that emerge are cast from the land, free from intellectual interference. They are the entities that have dwelled on the land, the light, and the shadows that follow.” – tres birds workshop.

tres birds SUPPORTS BARACK OBAMA

By: Todd Berger

Our pal and architecturally driven design super hero, Mike Moore, founder of tres birds workshop recently conceived and then crushed a brilliant installation for the Manifest Hope Gallery exhibition atop Andenken.  The installation was constructed of reclaimed bicycle wheels,  aircraft cable, reflective glass micro-beads, and steel pipe and installed over a period of two days.  It’s amazing and so are Mike and his team.

Here’s a little bit on why tres birds created their piece and why they support Barack Obama,

- We want Barack Obama to lead America.
- We support ending our war with Iraq.
- We are working on reducing building and transportation energy use.
- We are grateful for the bicycle

MANIFEST HOPE GALLERY – ANDENKEN!!!

By: Todd Berger

“We’re not going to settle for what the world is, we’re going to strive for what it might be.”Barack Obama.  And on thing that definitely will be – is one helluva frikin’ awesome art exhibition at Andenken Gallery (2990 Larimer Street) running Monday August 25 though Thursday August 28th.

The Manifest Hope Gallery exhibition celebrates arts pivotal role in creating cultural momentum and shines a spotlight on artists across the nation who use their voices to amplify and motivate the Obama campaign.  The gallery exhibition highlights 5 central themes of the progressive grass-roots movement: Hope, Change, Progress, Unity, and Patriotism.

While we’re super-stoked that this event is coming to Denver’s very own Andenken, we’re even more stoked to be participating in it and representing Colorado’s progressive art front alongside Scot Lefavor, Evan HecoxJosh Holland and Shannon Bonatakis, Mike Moore of tres birds, and Rick Griffith of Matter Studio.  The list of participating artists for the show is unbelievable, we’re truly honored and humbled to be involved.  Mark your calendars.  You don’t wanna miss this one!!!

TRES BIRDS WORKSHOP – FREEHILL STUDIO

By: Todd Berger

My friend Mike Moore heads up tres birds workshop, a Boulder based architecture and design firm.  Mike and his team are perpetually pushing the boundaries of design both conceptually and structurally (guess that’s why we haven’t found time to hang recently…).  Few US-based boutique firms exisit within any creative field that are as committed, conscious, seasoned and forward-thinking as tres birds.  Earning every right to work with clients like Burton (designing Jon Damiano’s first of its kind retail showroom in Denver leading to the eventual design of Burton’s flagship stores in Osaka, Los Angeles, Irvine, Oakland Chicago, and Vail) and CP+B (designing and building out some of the best features in their Boulder location) certainly wasn’t easy, but Mike and his crew made it happen – the way it should happen – through belief, committment, raw talent, some serious skills, and a little help from their friends.

Mike and his radical thinking are major sources of inspiration to the three of us at our little creative firm.  But, at days end… It’s the small things, like receiving videos like the one below (tres birds shot the below video while working on the Freehill studio and garage) that reaffirm that inspirational pole position and load it up with some bonus credibility.

MIKE MOORE – TRES BIRDS – BURTON

By: Todd Berger

Our good buddy Mike Moore stopped by today to review the new site we’ve been working on for his firm, tres birds workshop. We’re makin’ progress and the site’ll be pretty fresh when it’s complete, nice and clean, and offer up a great canvas to hold all of tres birds new work, which is a lot.

It’s always good to see Mike. He’s one of the most inspirational and insightful people we have the honor of working with. Mr. Moore and his team have been keeping busy to say the least. They’ve been designing all of Burton’s new retail spaces. From Chicago to Osaka to Vail to Los Angeles, if it’s new and says Burton outside and you can buy shit, well then tres birds designed the space. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more on Mike Moore and tres birds workshop cause they’re blazin’ a trail others are sure to follow.

JOHN D. AND HIS BURTON SHOW ROOM

By: JoyEngine

A chunk of the JE crew headed down to Denver last night to kick it with our homey, John Damiano, and check out his “flagship” Burton show room. The space was collaboratively designed by John and Tres Birds, our buddy Mike Moore’s architecture and design firm (featured earlier this week). The building is stunning, the interior leaves you in awe. We all took the tour and just hung out checking out Burton’s ‘07 gear and gettin’ the lo-down from John. There’s so much that could be said about John’s space that it’s diffcult to find the words, so I’ll just let the photos do the talking.

TRES BIRDS WORKSHOP

By: Lucian Foehr

Mike Moore, one of my personal heros, stopped by the shop yesterday to discuss making some mods to his firms website (tresbirds.com). Mike and his wife Stacy just had their second daugther, Maya, a couple of weeks ago (CONGRATULATIONS!), and subsequently Mike’s been dug in at home helping out. Mike broke out yesterday to hit the boulder skatepark (kinda frkikin’ nutz since it’s like 15 degrees in Boulder and theres piles of snow everywhere), but he needed to get his skate on. Mike is an architect, designer, and general contractor and owns Tres Birds Workshop. Mr. Moore is in my opinion one of the leading creative thinkers in Boulder, CO and leading the charge amongst next generation creatives worldwide. He’s recently had the opportunity to showcase his talent and skills on a global scale. After meeting John Damiano approximately 1 year ago, another dear and admired friend of the JE crew and Territorial Manager for Burton Snowboards, John and Mike decided to collaborate on John’s latest idea for a “flagshp” Burton showroom in Denver (pics coming soon).

Working closely and collaboratively, Tres Birds and Damiano, Inc. killed it, and John’s new showroom has not only raised the bar for Burton as a brand, but become the global model for what a Burton showroom should be. One thing led to another and Mike and Tres Birds are now building Burton’s flagship retail store in the heart of Chicago’s Goldcoast downtown shopping district. Between the completion of Damiano’s Denver showroom and the inception of the Chicago project Tres Birds has worked on other projects for Burton in both California and Tokyo.

We” be headin’ down to Denver tomorrow to have dinner with John (Eva, Lucian and myself), on a bit of an inspirational tour. We’ll be takin’ pics, so stay tuned and be prepared to be blown away. Jealousy is most likely the emotion you’ll be experiencing upon seeing pics of the space. It’s hard not to set foot in the John’s Denver showroom and not imagine how radical the creative process must’ve been during the design/build phase. Upon moving beyond that mindset all one can really do is envision what it must feel like each and every day to work and create in such an amazing and inspiring space.

We tip our hats to Mike Moore, the Tres Birds crew, and John Damiano on creating what is perhaps the most inspirational space in Colorado.

A couple pics of some Moore’s earlier projects are posted below.
