Justin Walker is a spectacular photographer and exceptionally rad cat. He straddles a fine line. A line we know well; the delicate balance between managing and producing commercial work and finding the time to conceive and create personal work. Amen to those so conscious. The three of us spent a chunk of this morning perusing his portfolio. It’s quite impressive.

Darren Mahuron is a photographer based out of Ft. Collins CO. Since his founding of Summit Studios with his wife in 2005 he has consistently been producing remarkable imagery. His photos possess strong illustrative qualities and are extremely narrative in nature.
Darren is a self-proclaimed misfit of several artistic disciplines and although photography is his medium of choice, his background in the arts is evident within his work, even as it continually strives to blur the line between commercial and fine art. His process is an amalgamation of photos developed from a fully realized studio, mixed with surreal collage methods, and finally; a seamless manipulation within Photoshop. Contrary to the popular traditions of masking reality with Photoshop techniques, Darren will often use his skills to accentuate flaws and distort features.
The imagery that Darren produces is authentic while still possessing an immense capacity for commercial application. His work has been published in Vice, Juxtapoz, Syntax, Camera Arts, Freeskier, Snowboarder, Spin and Alternative Press Magazines. He is represented by Debra Liguori in New York, NY. His portfolio can be found at Summitstyle.com.
“I loved that he cleaned up after himself before leaving an ice cream shop in Wapello, Iowa. He didn’t have to. The event was over and the press had left. He is used to taking care of things himself and I think this is one of the qualities that makes Obama different from so many other political candidates I’ve encountered. Nov. 7, 2007.” via Callie Shell
Voyeurism at it’s best…and not in a perverted kinda way. There is something truly fascinating to me about where and how people live (and what they surround themselves with), especially when those people happen to be really creative or famous. Todd Selby, well known and prolific commercial photographer gives you a chance to look in on the home lives of some of americas best creative talent. Inspiring, and in some cases, creepy views of what it’s like in their world…
I’ve been getting into photography lately, I have seen the amazing images one can capture and create… and the amount of money you can invest. I own 3 cameras now and this lil gem is about the “lowest-end” one.
Since the iPhone came out, one of the cons was its rather poor camera. While I can support that claim, I have to admit I have gotten some ‘descent’ images out of it (if I don’t move, and the lighting is perfect, and, and…).
I just came across this site and love the idea. Check out Just What I See: The iPhone photography of Greg Schmigel. He has produced some amazing images with his phone; It’s been very inspiring to see what an artist can do w/ a *cough* basic camera and a great eye.
Dutch artist, Jasper de Beijer, is currently having an exhibit at MCA Denver. He has a wicked process for creating a single piece of art and presents an interesting perspective on photography and the photographic process. He takes photographs, creates sculptures/models out of those photographs; then photographs these three-dimensional creations with the objective of the final photograph being the piece of art to be exhibited. It’s an unusual exhibit because MCA Denver is including a selection of miniature props de Beijer made and then photographed as a key element of his process. The artist also works on a computer to alter the photos before they’re printed. Interestingly enough, this is the first time that the models and the photos have been brought together in a single display.
Shannon and I recently traveled to Paris and London, and were blown away (as expected) by all things visual. I’d like to share some random tidbits from this truly inspirational trip with you all (everything from ads to classical sculpture). The pics start out with a French metro ad featuring illustrator extraordinaire, Jamie Hewlett, and ends with a massive photo mosaic outside the National Gallery in London. Enjoy!!!

I drink coffee with Matt a few days a week. We shoot the shit. Kick it for a few, but never get too deep. I had no idea Matt was a photographer until sAne sent me over a link to Matt’s site. He and sAne have some climbing history and subsequently are pretty tight. I mentioned to Matt today that I’d peeped his work and was stoked. In typical creative fashion he just brushed the commentary aside, stating that “that shit’s pretty outta date, my web guy is in England, and it’s been tough updatin’ the site”. Well, regardless – Matt’s photos are dope and Matt’s a super rad dude. Check his site even if it is a bit dated. We all know what a bear it is keeping our frikin websites up to date…
