CRAZY 4 CULT II RECAP

By: Josh Holland

On Friday night Gallery 1988 opened the second annual “Crazy 4 Cult” show, hosted by infamous film director Kevin Smith. The show’s theme centers around a list of films affectionately known as cult classics, and features artists as varied as the films they represented. Some notable participants include Shepard Fairey, Jim Mahfood, Chet Zar, Plasticgod, Reuben Rude, Camilla D’Errico and Shannon Bonatakis. I did not have the pleasure of attending, but the show can be seen online in its entirety HERE.

Smith made sure to snatch up every single piece that featured his film alter ego Silent Bob, hopefully not to look at himself, but to support those artists that have supported his film career all these years… Yup, that’s what I’m going with. Love me some smodcast. Rumor has it that Weird Al will be hosting next year, look for UHF to dominate.

The following are some snippets of my favorite pieces from this show. Enjoy!

‘TOYS’ SHOW RECAP

By: Josh Holland

On Tuesday night Gallery 1988 opened a massive group show aptly titled “Toys” and featured all toy related artwork from a wide range of artists. Some notable participants include Greg “Crayola” Simkins, Kathie Olivas, David Horvath, Camilla D’Errico and Shannon Bonatakis. I did not have the pleasure of attending, but the show can be seen online in its entirety HERE.

Some of my favorite pieces from this show are the customized toy VW busses, done up by heavy hitting artists such as Peekaboo, Reuben Rude, Tokidoki, Cameron Tiede, Jeremyville, Jason Limon, Mark Bodnar and Plasticgod. There’s a video of the Hotwheels exhibit HERE. Awesome stuff!

LIMITED ADDICTION GALLERY PRESENTS:

By: JoyEngine

Last Friday Limited Addiction Gallery held a stellar show with three super rad artists. Reuben Rude, Plankton Art Co. and Bwana Spoons were in effect. The gallery was full of hot art, so hot the temperature was like whoa! Kim & Dave ran shit like pros and sold almost the entire show out before the opening. Of course this was with the help of none other than the stunning talent of the artists themselves. Reuben had close to twenty pieces, all were totally masterful. Bwana Spoons had his whole steelo in effect, with a huge mural and a little installation piece too. Plankton Art Co. had a grip of awesome pieces that covered almost the right half of the space. I think all of the artists were in attendance as well, which of course makes the whole experience that much more exciting. You know the more I think about all of it, the less I want to talk about it. I hate making these posts sound like reviews and critiques, they are not supposed to. So please take that with a grain of salt. Instead of over explaining myself, just take a look at what you might have missed, and I hope to see you at the next one.
