Last night I got a sneak peak of the Obama-inspired wall murals in progress by Sam Flores, David Choe, and The Date Farmers for the Manifest Hope Gallery (unfortunately no photos were allowed). Make sure to take some time out of your day and check the pieces out-it will be well worth your time!
The Manifest Hope Gallery will be open Monday August 25th thru Thursday, August 28th between the hours of 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Just made a quick trip up to PDX this weekend, and had a chance to drop into the Upper Playground store. Great shop, a killer art gallery and good folks manning the place. The best, though, were the Barack Obama posters in the windows! The Morning Breath poster, below, was badass, but unfortunately Sam Flores’ offering was obscured by a wicked reflection in the window! Check the upper playground site for prints….sorry for the janky photo, as it was actually sunny in Portland.

Phu! has been busy customizing loads of new toys in an effort to keep up with the crazy number of commissions he’s been receiving. He’s started posting before and after pics of all his work on his blog, and it’s pretty amazing. He just finished up a custom Fatima (one of Sam Flores’s little ladies) and totally took it to another level. It’s great to see Phu!s interpretation of some of the toy worlds modern classics. Yeah Phu! - totally Phuturistic.

I received a rather intriquing email from my buddy Lifter Baron this morning. He’d stumbled upon a graphic designers portfolio containing what seemed to be a sad and blatant ripoff of an illustration Brian Krezel created for a collaborative piece we worked on together for an opening I had at Installation Shoe Gallery. I went in for a closer look and stopped by http://downpour.identico.org, and yep sure enough homey totally ripped Krez’s storkmaster and integrated him into a snowboard design for Salomon? Perhaps even for Salomon’s design contest? Seems like he went one step further and stole a little Sam Flores steez for the torso. Drawing inspiration from someone, somewhere, or something is one thing, but straight up copying… well, that’s another.
Oh, for those of you that have yet to realize, in this Digital Age we’re living in, the “world wide web” really is worldwide - with eyes on the prize 24/7.
Note: (top image) Comparison of the Storkmaster piece and Downpour’s snowboard. (bottom image) A scan of Krezel’s original storkmaster sketch prior to adjustment.

To celebrate the SuperStar’s 35th anniversary, adidas invited left coast NYC’s Surface to Air and right coast LA’s Sam Flores to paint on some seriously large SuperStars. The whole process was filmed and a nice little documentary was put together, which you can check out here. With all the creative budget cuts happening in the big bad corporate world I’m glad to see projects like this still happening - because with out art what do we have?

Our good pal Mark Siebert, yep the same Mark from the infamous Toofy Film Festival was just out in San Fran. Mark spent some time at the world reknown SF Hotel des Arts and shot a grip of new graf & artwork. He stayed in rooms by both Sam Flores & Vinyl Killer and sent over a ton of pics from his journey. We’re jealous. You should be too. Nevertheless a photo says something like a thousand words… is that right? Anyway, have a look at some seriously stellar artwork.
