As usual, Markham “Shitty Kitten” Maes crushed his latest show, this time at Josh & Tran’s, Shoppe (a first of its kind cereal & cupcake bar chock full of the most coveted art & design books available). Markham pushed the Sculpey around a bit further than usual, painted a number of albums, album covers, panels, skate decks, and kept it rollin’ all night long live painting both a large panel and a handful of models for The Fabric Lab’s fashion show at the Super Fresh Block Party later that evening (pics and details soon). Saturday night was a must see Denver evening. Thanks go out to all those who made it happen. It sorta… ruled. Nice work team!!!

March 8th looks more and more like it’s gonna be a big night on the calendar. Not only are the Shoppe and Plastic Chapel having the custom toy show, but The Fabric Lab is showing the work of Sandra Fettingis. Not that this is any sort of unusual soirée for the Colfax crew, it’s just another great reason to get out and enjoy a handful of things in this new and flourishing artistic community. Colfax is climbing the neat neighborhood ladder and inviting everyone out to be involved and support the progress. Make sure to check out Sandra’s website and set some time aside for another spectacular evening on Colfax, Denver’s new home for art, fashion, custom vinyl and cupcakes. Check links for details and extra info on artists and locations.

Our cohorts in criminal creativity are at it again, pushing forth the boundaries of locality and freshness. Tran & Josh of The Fabric Lab concocted a stew of tasty promotional posters, t-shirts and tote bags to soon hit the dark and gloomy streets of our haste ridden city. We like to think that these two are effortlessly edging their way to a new stage of radness (creative capers and villainous variety). We also hope that this is catchy like the Bird Flu, but without all of the stinky viral side effects. For the time being, keep your hands clean and pants on, for the arrival of some soon-to-be sick nasty and uber crafty promo goods from our homies at The Fabric Lab.

In case you haven’t noticed we’ve been doing some updates to our litte “JOYstore“… While we love designer art toys, and makin’ new tees, caps, and other affiliated gear we’ve decided to remove them from our online store and focus intently on further developing our online art gallery. All of our gear will be available at JoyEngine World Headquarters, 2037 13th Street, Downtown Boulder, CO, but will no longer be available online. We will occassionally drop some super hot tees, hoodies, and random shwag, but it won’t be all that often. The art gallery however will stay dialed, you can count on it.
The real aim of JoyEngine is to promote the arts, particularly the visual arts, and all those (particularly those in our crew and extended family) artists gettin’ after it. Subsequently, to do both our homies and ourselves justice we’ve simplified things. The real differentiator between JoyEngine and other related shops is our commmittment to our posse, and that means we gotta rep their art right. So, we’re gonna. There’s tons of designer toy stores, and all sorts of arty apparel shops (2 shops you should check out and help support are the Plastic Chapel(toy gurus) & The Fabric Lab(fashion geniuses), so we’re gonna let them do their thing, do our best to help support, and we’re gonna do ours. If we weren’t crazy doin’ client-side design work things might be different, but for now that’s dealio, yo. So, check out the art, it’s fuckin’ fresh and do your part to move creative culture forward. Word.

The creators of The Fabric Lab have done it again. With the unfortunate disapearence of The Yummies boutique, there was an ample amount of area to take the next step. “MADE” is a custom tailor and designer collaboration service that provides a sort of one on one experience with local fashion designers and customers so that they can share and evolve, not only the brand or the culture of fashion and design but the culture as well. Think of it as a custom clothing store. It sounds pretty damn cool to me, especially when I take into consideration the possiblilties for men to get a chance at getting some fresh ass gear. Gentlemen, the time is now and the place is “MADE.” You too women… To celebrate the launch of “MADE”, a small event was thrown for the homies and fans. It was a pretty good turn out and is starting to generate a lot of buzz. Make sure you stop in or check out the MADE myspace page.

Our friends down at The Fabric Lab are scheming and plotting. We’re not entirely sure how it all works, but we support them 100%. Check it out.
“Made, a custom boutique, will pair the customer with a local designer of their choosing so that they can collaboratively work together during the design/creative process to create a custom one-of-a-kind piece of apparel or jewelry.”
Sounds cool. We’ll be there for sure. You should come too. June 2nd, 7pm - 10pm.

The Haute Show at THE FABRIC LAB was a perfect way to end the art charged weekend. Tran and Josh know how to get a show crankin’ and that’s just what they did. By 7:30pm people were already rollin’ in to see what all the fuss was about. The fashion show at 9, had a huge turn out too. All of the artists work looked sick and the beats were super chill. Everything worked out well. Thanks again Tran and Josh for “Keepin’ It Realer!” Oh, and Mike Graves and Ray Young Chu of The Yummies for keeping us all hydrated with PBRs, big ups guys. Wait… wait… Nice curation Mr. Chu. Not only was Ray more than happy to stuff a cold beer in your hand, he handled all the curation for the show and dealt with all the art nerds.
NOTE: Çurating art shows takes skillz. Serious skillzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
