APPLIED IDEAS - TALKS ON DESIGN - MCA DENVER

By: Todd Berger

Ian Coyle, is one of our contemporary design heroes.  Perhaps, a bit of a superhero…  We’ve followed his work for many years, and his name regularly comes up in our studio.   His ability to seamlessly transition from digital (web/identity/print design) to analog (letterpress, among other disciplines) is admirable, to say the least.  Ian recently contacted me on behalf of cypher13, and asked if I would participate in a discussion at the MCA Denver with Chris Beatty (Cultivator - Creativer Director/Partner), Norm Shearer (Cactus - Creative Director/Partner), and himself (Superheros - Founder).  I was flattered, honored, a bit intimidated, and very excited to have the opportunity to discuss design with some of Denver’s industry heavies.

The discussion, or perhaps best described by Ian as “a creative conversation” is this Friday, September 19th from 7:30 - 9:00pm at the MCA Denver.

The Lowdown: Applied Ideas are open discussions on design and its relevance, theory, and practice. At a time when disciplines are converging, how does the role and application of design change?

Each program brings leading creative professionals together to discuss relevant topics on the design horizon. Curated by Ian Coyle, this program aims to connect and engage Colorado’s creative community.

THANKS FOR THE LUV!!!

By: Todd Berger

To those of you that have my back, and you know who you are, I’ve got yours.  Any time, any place.  But, you already knew that.  To  the rest of you, you work for me now.  Did you know that?  Or, did you not realize? Regardless, thanks for all the free labor at the expense of your employers, wives, children, and your own personal sanity.  In a world where time is an invaluable commodity, I couldn’t ask for more.  What a day.  I love you MOM! You did good.

THANKS FOR THE LUV!!!

NEW PIECE FROM TEEBEE

By: Lucian Foehr

My good friend and coworker Todd Berger aka TEEBEE finished up a nice little piece last week. It’s really a little piece of history as the painting is actually the table top on which Todd made the vast majority of his artwork in 2007 - including everything for his “Space Travelers and Other Affiliated Intergalactic Shit” show. Todd pulled our crafty ass carpenter buddy Mike Dunn aka Big Mike D to build a nasty custom frame - Mike also built all the custom frames for Josh Holland’s Adaptation” show. It’s pretty amazing how a messy ass table top really comes together with a sick ass frame. The piece was a wedding present and has been hung in the newly wed’s house, but I managed to snag some pics before it left the office. Check it:

SPACE TRAVELERS PREVIEW AND TEES

By: JoyEngine

So Todd has been working round the clock to prepare for his opening of “SPACE TRAVELERS & other affiliated shit” Thursday at Installation. It may be crunch time for TB, but from what we’ve seen in a brief preview from the comfort of his very own pad, he’s got a slew of dope shit that is going to rock your socks off. He also has some very limited tees (guys and girls) designed especially for the show that will probably make you look that much cooler than you already are. In all seriousness, TB has invested a ton of time into all of his work and Thursday is going to be unlike any other opening you’ve ever been to….so stay tuned and we’ll see you in a couple days.

ELEPHANT TAPS LOCAL DESIGNERS

By: JoyEngine

Elephant Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Waylon H. Lewis, is a super rad guy, and he puts out a super rad - way forward-thinking mag. Elephant Magazine is all about yoga, organics, sustainability, buddhadharma, conscious consumerism, the arts, and “fair” fashion. In an effort to promote Elephant’s dedication to the progressive arts Waylon began tapping into the local Boulder design scene for some racier covers. The last 3 covers have been designed (in order from bottom to top) by some of Boulder’s more significant players in the art & design scene: Scot Lefavor (EHF Collective/JoyEngine/Cypher13), Todd Berger (JoyEngine/Cypher13), and most recently (Lucian’s personal favorite) by Brian Oliva (Table2Press). Way to get after it “Way”.

CLEANING DAY

By: JoyEngine

Eva Extraordinare cleaned the cool lexan shelves for the first time since we opened. TB had to step in for the top shelf, and he hates that ladder. We told him to just James Bond it on the beam but he wasn’t down. We’re slowly dialing things in for Markham’s show in FEBRUARY…
